Not So Free Days

Well, my expectation to have a bunch of Free Days didn’t exactly happen.

Monday, I cleaned the master bedroom and went to the hospital to welcome Baby Scout. So that day went beautifully.

Tuesday, Mom and I went to SuperSuppers and made 34 meals between us in about 2 hours. Then I was planning to meet Traci and sew at the Thread and Fabric Crackhouse, but I had a tutoring student (my one and only for the week) at 2:30. So I had to stay here. After he left, when I was preparing to take some fabric to the TaFC and cut some fabric for piecing, the student’s mom arrived to give me a check and she and I talked for about 45 minutes on my front porch. And then it was time to drive out to Madison to get the girls…. And when I was about halfway out there (and meeting someone to pick up a scrapbook for my friend Pat), Jerry called — he was already on the way home with the girls. Oh. Well, I finished my errand and headed home to make dinner.

Yesterday, Mom took Alice to Kindermusik, Helen went to school, and I went to visit Ronda and hold little Scout. Then Alice and I puttered around here until it was time to pick up Helen, and then Helen and I puttered around while Alice napped. Then we went for a walk because it was a beautiful day outside.

Today, I had two appointments — one at 9:15 and one at 9:45 (my annual GYN appointment — ick), and I had to scramble to find a babysitter for Saturday night –FOUND ONE!! YAY!!! Then I called Mom, and she and I went for a walk sans kids (they were at their playschools), so that we could visit and chat about whatever without having to worry about little pitchers and their big ears (What does that MEAN?!)… And then it was time to pick up Alice. And then time to pick up Helen. Now they’re both passed out, and we have a playdate with two little girls in the neighborhood as soon as they rejoin the land of the living… And tonight is the Quilt Guild meeting.

Tomorrow morning, I’m going to Hancock’s or Hobby Lobby and picking up some ribbon and sequins and silk flowers to embellish a little white jean jacket for Alice — the topic for the Art Quilt Club on Friday night is collage, and I’m not really in the mood to make a display piece. But if I can do something wacky for one of my kids? That’ll be fun. So that’s what I’m going to do. 🙂

Yesterday in between everything I did manage to get FOUR blocks made for Alice’s bedquilt… And on Tuesday I did two… So progress is being made. Just not in the big chunks o’ time I had been hoping for. 🙂

‘Sokay. It’s still been a good week. I just wish I could let Helen into my sewing room without having to worry what she’ll fiddle with, but she’s not quite old enough yet. I used to love sitting at Mom’s feet while she worked on her sewing. 🙂

  1. Not THAT way, Nancy, I assure you. Whatever I do, it will be wacky and funky and weird, not a beribboned atrocity. Just don’t ask Jerry about it. His opinion on these things doesn’t count.

  2. First: long stretches of free time NEVER EVER work out.

Second: don’t mess with Alice’s jacket, which is perfectly cute the way it is.
