Those of you who know me well know that I have some skin issues, to use a euphemism. I’m allergic to a common chemical that shows up in many different products (like shampoo, lotions, shaving creams, detergents, etc.) and causes me to itch.
That said, my legs have been itchy for YEARS. Megan told me when she was a senior in high school that she always shaved with aloe vera rather than shave cream, and that helped. So I did that for a while, and it did help some, but I still had problems.
I found out what I was allergic to (methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone), and discovered how many household products it is in. Eliminated those from my life, and I’m doing much better.
However, about a year ago, I started shaving with a Schick Intuition razor, after people on the scrapbooking message board I go to were talking about it. I found that it didn’t have the chemical in it, so all was well. Great!
Until the swimming pool opened. I don’t know what it is about the pool — since it’s the “-thia-” component that I’m allergic to and not the “-chloro-,” because I’m allergic to Sulfa — but my legs have been ON FIRE again this summer. I think it’s probably a combination of something in the Intuition that has finally started to get to me, and something in the pool’s chemicals interacting with that. I don’t know. I just know I’ve been having to take ibuprofen so that I can sleep without scratching and driving Jerry up the wall.
Then my sister-in-law told me that she’s been using Mary Kay’s shaving cream for about a year and she swears by it. Ronda’s mom said the same thing. So after checking the ingredients (No Sulfa or Sulfa-like chemicals!), I decided to try it.
Ronda, I will be your spokesperson on this shaving cream. I even went to the pool yesterday and last night my legs still didn’t itch! For the first time since MAY.
And it smells really nice, too. 🙂
